Fundraising day at ADM for local domestic violence charity

The Rising Sun Domestic Violence Project works in partnership with the Canterbury Women’s Refuge, to provide the only fully integrated service in Kent for women and children having to flee domestic violence. Committed to providing immediate support where ever possible, the RSDVP offers not only crisis accommodation but also counselling, child therapy and community support to women and children in need.

At least 1 in 3 women experience domestic violence at some point within their lives and up to 17% of all violent crime in the UK is owing to domestic violence. However, these statistics may not necessarily paint a true picture of domestic violence trends, as sadly up to 65% of all domestic violence goes unreported.

All 13 members of staff at the RSDVP are dedicated professionals, who work closely with staff at the Canterbury Women’s Refuge. Every year the team receives approximately 1500 calls for support. The RSDVP has also recently expanded its scope, employing a part-time schools worker to provide preventative work in schools.

After being contacted by the RSDVP, Canterbury based ADM Computing donated three refurbished pc’s to the project through their ‘Computers for Charities’ scheme. The RSDVP will use the equipment within their administration offices and to offer internet access to the women residing within crisis accommodation.

As space is limited, RSDVP decided to opt to buy flat screen TFT monitors to accompany the PC’s. In order to contribute toward this outlay, the staff at ADM Computing held a ‘Dress Down Eat Cakes Day’ raising £60.64 which they donated to the RSDVP.

Emma, one of the staff at the RSDVP, thanked ADM for their assistance: “The computers will make a big difference to the women and children at the refuge. The children will now be able to use the pc’s to complete homework or play games and the women will be able to access information in order to re-build their families lives. Thank you to ADM for their generosity.”
